This trail conceived for nature lovers, as well as the walkers.The area is comprised within the Ria Formosa Natural Park, the most important wetland in the south of Portugal, known for its barrier islands, marshes, dunes and pine woods, in a richely woven mosaic of biodiversity.
This area is characterized by a mix of very unique natural conditions, such as the fact that there are two daily submersion periods and variable degrees of salinity. These areas allows the occorrence of such singular species as the Hypecoum littorale, classified as vulnerable in the list of endangered species.
Recognized as one of the main birdwatching sites in the country, Ria Formosa is rather unique not only the species richness but as well as the abundance of individuals and the easeness of observation. Besides avifauna, it is also well known for the tradition of bivalve culture, very typical of these áreas, as well as for the presence of animals as symbolic as the common chameleon and seahorses.
