Adults- flying insects / Larvae- aquatic macroinvertebrates, tadpoles and fish.
The largest dragonfly in Western Europe, reaching up to 8 cm in length. Its flight style is reminiscent of a helicopter, and the pale blue of its abdomen can be observed even without using binoculars. Adult males are very territorial, often expelling other dragonfly species from their feeding grounds.
Curiosity: Larvae are exclusively aquatic and can live up to 2 years, while adults (flying individuals) live up to 8 weeks.
